Who's Dream?

I'm for sensible immigration reform, but something from Sen Harry Reid's website has me upset. It's called the Dream Act. In a nutshell it supports providing in-state tuition and financial aid for "for young people who aren’t U.S. citizens". I support a path to citizenship for hard working folks who are here to make a better life for their family. I understand that we can't and shouldn't round up all illegal immigrants and send them packing. But before we give them special consideration, maybe we should make in state tuition available to military dependents. Normally these kids don't have a choice of what their state of residence is, one of the many sacrifices they make so their mom or dad can serve. We also have a large class of people who aren't rich, but earn too much money to qualify for federal aid (OK I'm being a little selfish here). Why should I subsidize someone else dream at the expense of my own kids?
In principle, I support President Bush on the compromise bill, however if this provision makes it into the final bill in conference it will be a bitter pill to swallow.

President Bush's Shift on Global Warming

For the longest time, the current administration has been skeptical of man's causal link to global warming. Today, President Bush announced he wanted to discuss how the industrialized countries could improve on the expiring Kyoto measures ahead of the G8 meeting. Environmental critics failed to embrace this acknowledgement of the issue and the proposed discussion with top polluting countries to craft a solution. Sometimes it makes me question their motives.
It's Iraq stupid! Success or failure in Iraq will determine the fate of the 08 elections. If President Bush's revised strategy doesn't stabilize the country the Reps don't have a snowball's chance in 08. Despite this they continue to abandon ship virtually ensuring his strategy will fail. The losers will be the common Iraqi man, women and child and the western World as terrorist attacks become more frequent and devastating. So does anybody in the Rep race have a spine to stick with the Pres?

The race for President is heating up. With all this action and the general election over a year and a half away are we going to get sick of all the coverage. NO...this is what we live for. We will dissect every word that a candidate utters between now and when they drop out of the race, which has me thinking have the real candidates thrown their hats in yet. Check out the latest poll at Election Animals.
